11th March 2018 and it is a perfect morning in Cape Town. 33,000 cycling enthusiasts from across South Africa and the rest of the world were gathered to take part in the worlds largest timed cycle race the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2018. We proudly cycled this year under one of our favorite charities the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
The organisation of the event and the spectacular logistics of it all was truly fantastic. With little to no wind to speak of and the cool conditions at the start gave the team the confidence that it was going to be a great riding day indeed. Kicking off with a short small climb from the grand parade in Cape Town up past Woodstock got the legs warmed up and ready for the first big climb of the day at Wynberg hill.
Although the team split up into groups based on the varied fitness levels and cycling ability the camaraderie at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital hospitality area at the finish was at an all time high with various stories of too dig deep in certain areas and dealing with cramps. Some of us much more than others to be fair.
Thank you to the team at Red Cross for giving us the opportunity to support the foundation and for affording us the privilege of riding for your cause.
